I had been emailing and calling back and forth with Shanna for several weeks...the weather has been uncooperative lately and canceled our first shoot...but fortunately, today was Halloween and Mother Nature wanted to make it a nice day and night for the kids!
Super fun shoot at Baker Beach - my second one there (first was an engagement shoot) and probably only the 3rd time I had ever been to SF's famous nude beach :)
Had a lot of good shots here, as the kids were just full of energy and laughter...such a happy family I could tell!
I had worked with Ron and Antonio and their organization, Grupo Fremont VIP, in 2 previous gigs, photographing their outdoor events. This was their biggest event yet, with singers, a live band, samba dancers, and, as always, free HIV testing offered. It was held in a nightclub, so the lighting was really dim...adjusting the flash was necessary every once in a while because the amount of light changed, depending on what was going on.
Super support as always, a super compliment to the great work Ron and Antonio do, and have done, for many years...so super, in fact, they had October 17th dedicated as Ron and Antonio day in Oakland!!!!
Mark your calendars!
Helen was having a duel themed birthday for her kids, Cyrus (4) and Isis (1). Cyrus, a huge Giants fan, had his side of the room decked out in orange and black, while Isis had the other side decorated in a Princess theme. Combining the two, one of the guests' daughters was a Giants Ballerina, tootoo and all!
An excellent clown, Mr. Funnybone, came to entertain the dozens of kids...and his balloon making skills were the best I've seen. After he finished his routine, the kids went outside to hit the pinata!
As always with a pinata, once it broke, the kids swarmed to the candy, oblivious to the possible dangers of the swinging bat! My memory and experience with a pinata (when I was around 3?) was the clay falling on my head and making me cry...I guess back then they filled them with things other than candy!? Or perhaps my parents got the cheap version :)
I posted a TFCD ad on Craigslist because I was on tilt from Samantha's wedding photos! The photo of her on the school bus looking down at her ring gave me tingles...it came out way better than I thought!
Excited by this I wanted to try my hand working with models one on one.
I am lucky in that I have access to an empty house in SF and we used that for the shoot. Big windows in the living room allowed nice warm light to filter in, and it gave her a nice backlit look!
Ella is my cousin.
She is the mother of a darling little girl, Lily, whom I have a photographic responsibility to capture over the years :)
She and Jason had a beautiful wedding in the beautiful setting of Stern Grove in SF. It was a cool sunny day, and the light filtering through the hundred year old redwood trees made the day even more magical!
Though I wasn't the photographer for the day, how can I not bring my gear for such an event? It was nice not having to worry about photographing every detail...plus, there were dozens of photographers already!!! Big cameras, small cameras...I felt like I didn't need to click my shutter since there were so many! But I did, and I enjoyed capturing not the event, but the people...weddings are so beautiful because you get to see family in such formal clothing, and EVERYONE wants a photo of themselves...including myself! I made sure I got my licks in on that memory card :)
Congrats Elle and welcome to the family (officially) Jason!!!!
When I arrived at the restaurant for the party, I knew it was going to be a fun atmosphere...the balloons, the rumor of a magician and Spongebob Squarepants, and the giant gifts on the endtable all gave it away!
Adris was turning 2 and had a good group of aunties to pinch his cheeks and spoil him good :)
The whole night, along with his sister, Adris was followed, carried, adored, and smiled upon as he grabbed his mom's camera and took photos of himself, danced in the middle of the dance circle, and played with his piano...although it seemed his real passion belonged with the drums!
Angela and her sisters were way cordial and loved the camera almost as much as Adris...making my night easier, and that much more enjoyable.
And I hear this was tame compared to hs first birthday!!!
